    Ora Lee Dicks Milton

    Ora Lee Dicks Milton of Orlando died Thursday after an extended illness. She was 84.

    Mrs. Milton was born in Pocatello, Idaho, and lived most of her life in Lake City.

    She worked for Sears Roebuck and Co. for 28 years as a credit manager. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held leadership positions in her ward, later serving as a temple worker in the Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Orlando temples.

    She was an avid gardener and genealogist.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie F. Milton Sr., and a grandson, Flint Carlton Dickman.

    Survivors include daughters LaTreva Dickman of Orlando and Joanne Wilkes of Chapin, S.C.; a son, J. Frederick Milton Jr. of Spotsylvania, Va.; a brother, Ivol Dicks of Lake Butler; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

    James Earl Dicks Sr.

    Mr. James Earl Dicks Sr., 75, of Lake City, died early Sunday morning at his residence following an extended illness.

    Born November 20, 1922, in Columbia County, he ws the second child born to the late Ollie and Lizzie Williams Dicks. Mr. Dicks was a lifelong Columbia County resident and was best known for the vegetables that his work as a farmer produced. Mr. Dicks' farms were famous for his tobacco, acre peas and all the different types of greens that he grew. Mr. Dicks' health had only recently forced him out of the fields that are still full of the greens that he was most noted for. Mr. Dicks attended Hopeful Baptist Church.

    Mr. Dicks is survived by his wife, Idalee Dicks, two sons, Edward Dicks, Lake City, and James Earl Dicks, Jr., Milton, Florida; two step-sons, Robert Terrell, Lake City, and Raymond Terrell, Lake City; a step-daughter, Robbie Carter, Deer Park, Texas; a brother, Ivol Dicks, Lake Butler, Florida; and a sister, Ora Lee Milton of Lake City. Three grandchildren and a great-grandson also survive.

    Funeral services for Mr. Dicks will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 1998, in Hopeful Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick McCall officiating. Interment will follow in Hopeful Baptist Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8:30 Monday evening at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Biggs Funeral Home, 3801 S. First St., Lake City.

    Ivol Henry Dicks, 84, of Lake Butler passed away peacefully on January 23, 2011, at the Avalon Care Center in Lake City after a brief illness. He was born in Columbia County, living most of his life in Union County. He was a farmer, but retired from U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. He was the son of the late Ollie Dicks and Lizzie Williams Dicks. he was preceded in death by his loving wife Letha Brown Dicks and two brothers: Harvey and Earl Dicks and a sister, Ora Lee Milton (Johnnie) Milton. He was a Mormon.

    He is survived by his daughter: Marilyn Williams (Denny) of Lake City, son: Dale Dicks (Sheila) of Lake Butler and two grandchildren: Scott Dicks and Jennifer Dicks.

    Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am in the Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery, with Elder Wendell Nettles conducting the services. Burial will follow under the care of ARCHER FUNERAL HOME of Lake Butler. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday evening.

    Leland Nelson Douberley, 96, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, December 12, 2017 at the Solaris Health Care Center in Lake City after an extended illness. He was born in Lake City on September 9, 1921 to the late Wilbur W. and Bertha Williams Douberley. He has been a life-long resident of Lake City and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After attending Columbia High, he delivered kerosene during World War II, and worked for many years with his father as a grocer at Douberley's Grocery Store. He worked as a salesman with Summers Chevrolet, The Hackney Brother's Grocery Company and retired after 15 years of service with the Lake City Fire Department. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 78 years; Robbie Markham Douberley in May of this year and his siblings; Myrtis Douberley Markham, Dorrie Rogers, Leta Martin, Hollis Douberley, Foy Mae Brownlee and Bernice Munns.

    He is survived by his loving children; Judy (Buddy) Lyons of Lake City and Fan (Joe) Hines of Palatka and his grandchildren; Stephanie Hines of East Palatka and Kyle (Jennifer) Hines of Hollister. Many extended family members and friends also survive.

    Funeral services for Leland will be conducted on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M. (one hour prior to the services).     Our beloved mother, Shirley "LaTreva" Dickman, died peacefully in the early morning of September 26, after bidding goodbye to the last of her eight children. She was interred on September 30, 2019 in the Hopeful Baptist Cemetery in Mason, Columbia County, Florida, next to her parents, Ora Lee Dicks and Johnnie Frederick Milton, Sr. A memorial service will be held in her honor at the LDS Bumby Chapel, 4020 S. Bumby Ave, Orlando, FL, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 19, 2019. A life celebration will follow with a Luau from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the same location.

    LaTreva grew up in Lake City, Florida and received her teaching degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. She loved quilting; many friends and family still have the quilts that she lovingly made and gave away. She was an Orange County Public School teacher for many years, working at Stonewall Jackson Middle School, Freedom Middle School, and Liberty Middle School. She also taught night school at William R. Boone High School, Colonial High School, and Mid-Florida Technical School. She loved teaching in the Orlando area, where she lived for over fifty years. She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served for many years in various capacities in the church.

    She is survived by her sister, Joanne Wilkes of Chapin, SC, brother, Johnnie Frederick Milton, Jr. of Spotsylvania, VA, and children, Shannon Lee Barabas of Gillette, WY, Otto Frederick Dickman IV of Mexico City, Mexico, Jason Thad Dickman of Orlando, FL, Mieke Carroll Gooch of Guatemala City, Guatemala, Amber Lavonne Dickman of Orlando, FL, Kipling Scott Dickman of Orlando, FL, Kendall Ann Townsend of Denali, AK, and Ethan Milton Dickman of Frankfurt, Germany, along with fifteen grandchildren.

    Mr. James Earl Dicks Jr. 65, of Lake City passed away Saturday evening at home. One minute he was watching the Gators play and then the next minute he went home to the Lord. James, had the chance to do things he enjoyed, a member of the Columbia High All State Championship team 1n 1967, a fifth generation farmer, a Corrections officer with the rank of Captain when he retired. An honor he was given was being selected Correctional officer of the year in 1997 at Columbia CI.

    James is preceded in death by his son Patrick his parents Earl and Helen Norris Dicks and sister, Linda Steedley. He loved to hunt and fish, travel, and did beautiful wood working projects and could fix or build just about anything until his health declined, then he could "supervise". He returned home to Lake City after his retirement and was once again in the fields that he loved. His last trip to the farm was that afternoon to check the peas, greens, and hogs with his son (and talk about the game he was going to watch).

    He leaves behind his wife Michele Simpson Dicks, sons Stephen Michael and Christopher Kyle Dicks, daughters Jenifer Boutwell and Kate Mitchell all of Lake City, FL; along with four grandchildren and two great grandchildren a brother Edward Dicks.

    A memorial service will be held Thursday October 16, 2014 at Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home Chapel, at 5:00 P.M. with Pastor Daryl Tomlinson officiating.

    The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at the Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home.

    Lureeta Dicks Shannon, age 82, beloved wife of the late, Robert W. Rock Shannon, affectionately known as Susie, completed her journey in this mortal life on May 20, 2017 at St. Vincent Riverside Hospice surrounded by her family. Susie was born on June 19, 1934 in Lulu, Florida to the late Jessie and Eva Dicks.

    She was also preceded in death by her husband Robert Walter Shannon, Jr. This year would have been their 55th wedding anniversary. Together they had three children, Michael Shannon (Sharon), Eva Shannon Coffey and Jessie Shannon (Shanna). She is also survived by five grandchildren, Mark Griffin, Amber Coffey, Hayley Shannon, Destiny Shannon, and Sarah Chandler, and two great grandchildren, Trinity Griffin and Eva Griffin. She loved them unconditionally with the tenderness only a mother and grandmother could have. They were her greatest joy and she considered it her greatest calling in life. Nothing was more important than their happiness. She is also survived by her brothers Wallace Dicks (Merle) and Jimmie Dicks (Mable).

    Sister Shannon, a title she cherished, also experienced great joy in the service of others by following and emulating the life of Christ. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and treasured serving in the Relief Society and teaching Primary children about Heavenly Father and His son.

    She loved to garden. Her sons, Mike and Jessie, claims she could plant a stick and it would grow. Eva, her daughter, said that her mother had so many fruit trees that you could eat your way around her house. Cooking was also a passion and found great pleasure watching friends and family enjoy the meals she created.

    Friends and family are invited to celebrate her past life and the new one she now enjoys on the other side of the veil. Visitation and viewing will be Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 10 to 11 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 2800 S. 14th St. Fernandina Beach. Funeral services will follow at 11 am in the chapel with Bishop Dave Carter officiating and Elder Ron Miller assisting. Mrs. Shannon will be laid to rest beside her husband in Hughes Cemetery.     W.V. "Dub" Markham, 79, a resident of Lake City, Florida passed away Saturday August 5, 2006 at his residence after an extended illness.

    Mr. Markham was the son of the late Victor Hugo and Myrtice Douberly Markham.

    He was preceded in death by his son Scott Kimble Markham.

    He was a veteran of World War II having served in the army. He was employed with Rountree-Moore Ford as a car salesman for 30 years.

    Survivors include his wife of 62 years Martha Jean Markham, daughter Cheryl Sue (Frank) Willis, two sons Robert Victor (Jacqueline) Markham, and Ronald Eugene (Jennifer) Markham. Four grandchildren, Richard Willis, Troy Markham, Randall Markham and Wesley Markham. Four Great Grandchildren, Scott Willis, Blayne Markham, Haidyn Markham, Marina Markham.

    Graveside funeral services for Mr. Markham will be held Wednesday August 9, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in the Bethel Cemetery with Rev. LEon McElhaney, officiating.

    Steve Martin passed peacefully January 2, 2018, surrounded by family at Parkwood Healthcare Community in Bedford, TX. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Martin (North Richland Hills, TX), his 3 children: Kelli Martin Brew (Gainesville FL), Lori Martin Huffman (North Richland Hills, TX), and Mike Martin (Shady Shores, TX), 11 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

    Steve was known for his integrity, sense of adventure, gentle wisdom and generosity. His family brought him much joy and he was a wonderful husband, father, papa, and great-papa. Family came from near and far to see him off with music, hugs and a great deal of love and gratitude.

    Steve was born in Orlando, Florida in 1935 and spent most of his early life in Lake City, Florida. He left Lake City after high school to join the Air Force and was soon selected to be the radar operator in an RB50-G Superfortress during cold war missions over Russia. Steve received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service.

    After leaving the military, Steve returned to Lake City where he married his sweetheart, Sandra Dale Richardson in 1957. Soon after, he began working at Moore Business Forms, a rival of IBM at the time, as an entry level salesman. Over the years, his hard work, intelligence and belief in the company helped him rise to a senior level sales executive. During his 30+ year career, Steve was a mentor and model of integrity in business for a generation of employees at Moore and for his family.

    Steve loved the mountains. He took his family on numerous vacations to the Smokies and the Rockies before making a home in the beautiful San Juan range town of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. He and Sandy hiked and jeeped with the Gray Wolves Club, camped with friends and were regularly on the slopes at the Wolf Creek ski area. He lived his dream of living in the west and enthusiastically shared it with family and friends.

    Steve had many hobbies throughout his life. He loved to read and was a history buff. He loved music and built his own hi-fi as a young man. He became a private pilot as a young father and flew his family to visit grandparents, ski in NC and island hop in the Bahamas. A Florida boy, he loved snow and would watch the weather reports for the exact right moment to leave South Florida to make it to Appalachia just before it began to fall (he was an expert at this). As a grandfather, he loved giving the grandchildren rides in Papas truck, taking them white water rafting, horseback riding and fishing.

    Steve and Sandra's marriage was a model of love and commitment. They were married sixty years, and the strength and support that marriage provided allowed him to not only succeed in business but to engage deeply in other life activities.

    Steve was a quietly spiritual man and was active as an elder in his church. He lived his faith through quiet acts of service, like helping an elderly widow shovel snow, and driving cancer patients for chemo treatments in a neighboring town.

    Steve struggled with dementia the last ten years of his life. As his memories and personality faded, his family took comfort in remembering him and seeing his legacy in each of them and in their expanding families. The impact he had on their lives was evident in the gathering that took place during his last days, where children and grandchildren sang, laughed, and cried together during his passing, grateful for the life he lived and gave them.

    A memorial service will take place in Lake City, Florida in May, where his ashes will be buried in a family graveyard, next to his mother and father.

    Tena Eileen Douberley Kattau entered this life May 8, 1950 and departed this life February 2, 2021. She attended and graduated from Columbia County schools and North Florida Junior College in Madison, FL. She was employed at Division/Lake City Medical Center for seventeen years.

    Tena enjoyed visiting family and friends. She adored her two nieces, Kim and Amy, and loved watching them grow up. Tena enjoyed reading, adult coloring, music, dancing and history.

    She is predeceased by her parents, Hollis C. Douberley and Jessie Mae Douberley and brother-in-law Parks Stallings, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Martha D. Stallings, nieces Kim Sirdevan (Terry) and Amy Gandy (Ben), great-nieces Katherine Gandy and Olivia Sirdevan and great-nephews Parker Sirdevan and Benjamin Gandy.

    Graveside service will be held Monday, February 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at 10:00 a.m. at the graveside.
