- Dolan Vinson Smith II (D.V.) born to Dolan V. and Mary R. Smith on February 26, 1969, in Radford, Virginia and passed on December 6, 2014, at 45 years of age.
Dolan attended Crystal River High School and played football as a pirate throughout his high school years. He later graduated in 1987 and went into the U.S. Navy as Communication and Intelligence and served on the USS Yosemite (AD-19). After serving his country, he married Jody Lynn Dickerson on March 13, 1993, the day of the "no-name storm". He then worked while attending Tallahassee Community College while his wife, Jody Smith, went through pharmacy school, and later built his home and family in Inverness, Florida. He was a youth minister at Floral City Baptist church from 1997-2005 and has been a part of the youth ministry at Cornerstone Baptist Church since. He was self-employed in the state of Florida as an independent remodel contractor, known as Dolan Smith Carpentry and his business was nominated Best of Best 2014 in Citrus County. He was an honored father, son, husband, brother, and role model to our community. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time with his family, and most of all, witnessing to others about our mighty God, whom he loved and served.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jody Smith; his 18 year old daughter, Bethany Smith (Coleton Butler); his 17 year old son, Dolan Vinson Smith III; his first grandchild expected to be here in January, Reagan Alice Butler; his parents, Dolan V and Mary R Smith; his two sisters, Kandy Gould (Pete Gould) and Rachel Ivory (Alan Ivory); brother-in-law, Jack Dickerson (Jenny Dickerson); his grandfather, Cecil Davis; grandmother, Jene Dickerson; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his congregation of brothers and sisters in Christ.
Dolan is predeceased by his baby sister, Alice Smith; his grandmother, Mary R. Davis; and his uncles, Cecil Davis Jr. and George Davis.
On behalf of Dolan's family, thank you to all family and friends that have been there to love and support their family in such a tragic time, as well as Cornerstone Baptist Church, Red Level Baptist Church where Dolan's father is a deacon, and Davis Funeral Home. If you would like to give any donations in his honor, the family would appreciate you donating to The Path, a homeless veteran's association in Inverness, as well as to Gideon Bibles who will donate bibles in Dolan's name. There will also be a fundraising link on Facebook for the family. The family thanks you all for your support.
Dolan Vinson Smith II impacted a countless number of lives and he will never be forgotten. He was a selfless man who always put his family and his God first. He used his work as a ministry, witnessing to every customer or person he came into contact with, always striving to show others what God's great love feels like. Dolan left a reputation that will forever be honored and cherished.
