Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Riemann Funeral Home, 25th Avenue, Gulfport.
BILOXI --- John Chandler "Chan" Duncan died Sunday, October 27, 2002, at the Veteran's Hospital in Biloxi, where he had resided for the past five months.
Mr. Duncan was a native of Walthall County and owned a dairy farm. He was born April 10, 1915, and was 87 years old. He was a graduate of Pearl River Junior College at Poplarville, and prior to entering the Army Air Corps, Chandler Duncan signed a contract with the St. Louis Cardinals training camp. He was a USAF Staff Sergeant in World War II. He retired from the Veterans Administration and was a resident of Gulfport for 42 years. Mr. Duncan was a past member of the American Legion, a member of the D.A.V., and was also a member of the Tylertown Masonic Lodge. Mr. Duncan was a member of First Baptist Church of Mississippi City for 20 years, where he had been Sunday School Superintendent, and was a deacon for many years. He is now a member of Pass Road Baptist Church where he was not able to be active because of ill health.
Mr. Duncan was preceded in death by his parents, Robert "Bob" Duncan and Daisy Hobgood Duncan; his sister, Mrs. Alton (Audrey) Johnson; and his brother, Edd Duncan, all of Tylertown. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lourene "Lou" Wilks Duncan; two daughters, Jeannie McCain McInnis, and Chanda Duncan Beard; and three grandchildren, Vanessa Autumn Vincent, Jacob Chandler Beard, and Kyle Jackson Beard.
Visitation will be at Riemann Funeral Home, 25th Avenue in Gulfport, on Wednesday, October 30, from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum in Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Pass Road Baptist Church, 208 Pass Rd., Gulfport, MS 39507.
