Funeral services for Ira VonBuddy Thigpen, 86, will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home with interment to follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Mr. B.J. Powell and Mr. Randy Martin will officiate. Mr. Thigpen was born in Treutlen County on September 28, 1918. He was the son of the late Ira Von and Edith Hall Thigpen. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nina Mae Scarborough Thigpen. He was formerly of Dublin, and Swainsboro. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was retired from the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center as a Nursing Assistant. He also served in the United States Army during WWII in the European Theater. Mr. Thigpen died Sunday evening at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville following an extended illness. Survivors include his beloved care takers Beth and B.J. Powell of Dublin; two brothers, Oswald Thigpen of Swainsboro and Pat Thigpen of Cleveland, Tenn.; and three sisters, Evelyn Jennings of Muskegon, Mich., Geraldine Martin of Louisville and Yuvawn Tapley of Swainsboro. Pallbearers will be Shawn Henderson, Casey Tapley, Johnny Tapley, Michael Thigpen, Steve Dukes and Richard Upshaw. The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until funeral hour at the funeral home. The family asks that In lieu of flowers that donations be made in memory of Mr. Thigpen to Hospice of Laurens County at Post Office Box 1344, Dublin, Ga. 31040.
