A native of Wayne, now Brantley County, she was the daughter of the late Noah Thomas Harris and Clifford Amanda Highsmith Harris. She was the widow of George Royal Steedley.

She was a homemaker and a member of Hickox Baptist Church.

Survivors are three daughters, Geneva Prescott and Carolyn Prescott, both of Folkston, and Wanda Rowell of Nahunta; one son, George Ernest Steedley of Nahunta; 11 grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; two sister; Maude Cleland and Dorothy Mae Steedley, both of Nahunta.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Hickox Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. W. Derrell Rentz officiating.

Songs, "Mother," and "At the Crossing." Sung by Bonnie Thomas.

Burial was in Little Buffalo Cemetery near Hickox.

Pallbearers were Phillip Chancey, Alvin Lee, Earl Cleland, Andy Harris, Leonard Harris and Ronnie Crews.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School Class.

Chambless Funeral Home of Nahunta was in charge of arrangements.

5055 Solomon Junior Powell, 83, of the Hillview Community died Friday, April 10, 2015, at Meadows Regional Hospital in Vidalia. A lifelong resident of Tattnall County, he was the son of Arthur and Lillie Mae Wilson Powell. Junior was a retired owner and operator of Powell's Grocery in Collins for 22 years and a retired farmer. He loved fishing, riding his tractor and his four legged friend, Mac. He was a member of the Rogers Baptist Church.

Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Benny Fort; a grandson, Brian Fort and three brothers, Felton, Aaron and W.A. Powell.

Survivors are his wife of 65 years, Lois Dees Powell and one son, Glenn Powell both of Hillview; two daughters, Gail Fort of Collins and Jean McCumber and her husband, Edwin of Lyons; three brothers, Chester Powell of Collins, Hugh Powell of Lyons and Tommy Gene Powell of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Nancy Greene of Lyons and Bertie Mae Jernigan of Collins; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 pm, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Rev. Gerald Dorr officiating. Burial will be in the Anderson Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 6-8 pm, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Wendell Powell, Brad Gore, Larry Hilliard, Kenny Lynn, Buster Bradley and Charles Bradley. 5059 Son of Josiah Parrott & Frances Roberts. He married Elizebeth Leonard on 29 December 1853 in Murray Co., GA and they had four children.

Orange was one of the pastors at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church located north of Ramhurst, Georgia.

He served in Volunteer Company "D" of the 22nd Regiment of Georgia, Wright Brigade of the Northern Virginia Army. He enlisted on August 3, 1861 as a private. He was captured at Jericho Ford, Virginia on 26 May 1864 and released at Elmira, New York on 14 June 1865.

He also belong to the Daytona Beach Yacht Club, Elks Lodge #1141 where he was a life member, the Halifax Club and the Halifax Area Kiwanis Club. He was a retired salesman and manager with McFarland Furniture Company after 37 years with the firm.

He married Marie Floyd on August 9, 1930, in West Point, Clay County, MS. She preceded him in death on September 23, 1978. He married Cecilla Madiline Zieglar Meyer on Janaury 7, 1979, in Daytona Beach.

He was survived by his wife, Cecilla; a brother, William Wilkes; three children (all adopted), Shelburn Elliott Manning Wilkes, Daniel Lee Manning Wilkes and Rita Gail Manning Wilkes Freeman, five granchildren, Susan Gail Wilkes Feindt, Thomas Lee Wilkes, Gwen Marie Freeman Fabulich, Cindy Gail Freeman and Meghan Jane Wilkes; and an extended family of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by an adopted son, Jon Francis Wilkes, who died in 1950. His funeral was held May 26, 1992, at First Christian Church of Daytona Beach, FL, with The Rev. E. Joseph Hood officiating along with an Elks Memorial Service.

Cause of death: ruptured abdominal aorta aneurysm.

Ocala - Sondra Lynn Westberry Burnett, 56, of Ocala, Fl passed away at The Lodge Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by family, after a brief illness. Sondra was born in Live Oak, Fl to Mrs. Bobbie Box and SSG Russell Richardson. During her career Sondra worked in healthcare, lovingly serving Marion county. She was a member of South Ocala Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Mia. She is preceded in death by her father. Sondra is survived by her mother, Bobbie & Bill Brewer, Ocala, FL; three daughters: Elizabeth Westberry, Live Oak, Fl; Candyce & David Hess, Pennsylvania; Brittany Westberry, Ocala, Fl. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude in Sondra's name. Per Sondra's wishes, no memorial services will be held.

5062 Sonia Louise O'Steen, 45 of Lake City, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022 at the Haven Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center in Lake City.

She was born February 27, 1976, raised and was a lifelong resident of Lake City. Growing up with two brothers and a sister, Sonia had many good times, like throwing cow patties at each other in the pasture. Sonia worked as a nail technician for Southern Exposure before opening Sunsations Tanning and Nail Salon in Lake City. No matter the occasion, Sonia could get dolled up with her hair and makeup perfect or being dressed in her camo to go deer hunting or fishing. She enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, going mudding with her Uncle Gary O'Steen and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Boss and Ruby O'Steen; her maternal grandparents, Marshall and Frances Wheeler; one aunt, Alene Prebys; and one uncle, Gary O'Steen.

Survivors include her parents, Colin and Brenda O'Steen, Lake City; two children, Blake Murray (Austin Wilemon), Orange Park and Colton Charles, Lake City; her siblings, Kelly O'Steen (Dusty McCray), Lake City, James O'Steen, Lake City and Colin O'Steen, Jr., Fargo, GA; niece, Kelsey Gonzalez (Jason Bass), Lake City; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 3:00 PM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Randy Ogburn officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S US Hwy 441, Lake City, FL 32025. Please leave words of comfort for the family at www.gatewayforestlawn.com.

Sonja Garrison Peterson Mrs. Peterson, 71, of Charlotte, NC, passed away at home on Sunday, June 7, 2009, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

She is survived by Howell Peterson, her husband of 46 years; son, Karl Peterson, daughter-in-law, Katy, grandchildren Kacie and Kyle, all of Boca Raton, FL, and by a sister, Delores Rudisail of Peachtree City, GA.

Sonja was the daughter of Marvin and Olga Garrison. She was born in St. Paul, MN, and grew up in Florida, Minnesota and Rock Hill, SC. She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. Her great loves in life were her family, flower gardening and bird watching.

The family will receive friends at J.B. Tallent Funeral Service, 1937 Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte, NC, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9.

Funeral Services will be held at Sardis Baptist Church, 5811 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC 28270, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, and interment will be in the Peterson family cemetery near Garland, NC, on Thursday, June 11, at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sardis Baptist Church Growth Fund.

5066 SOPERTON - Mrs. Grace Wilkes Brantley, 73, died Wednesday at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin after a short illness. The Laurens County native lived in Treutlen County 40 years and was a member of Lothair United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Wade Brantley of Soperton; two daughters, Miss Sandra Holt of Soperton and Mrs. Sharon Folsom of Brunswick; a sister, Mrs. Sybil Simmons of Augusta; two brothers, Willie D. and David Baum Wilkes, Jr., both of Augusta.

Funeral: 4 p.m. today at Sammons Funeral Home, burial in Red Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery.
