John A. Wilkes, Jr. - 92
Of Valdosta, GA passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in the Langdale Hospice House. He was born on October 31, 1924 in Naylor, GA to the late John & Ruth (Tyler) Wilkes. Mr. Wilkes served in the United States Army during WWII and was a member of Pleasant Way Baptist Church. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Wilkes and a daughter, Catherine Geddings.

Daughters & Sons-in-Law, Paulette & Jeffrey Eberhard of Mountain Rest, SC,
Pamela & Charles Saul of Okeechobee, FL;
Grandchildren, Donna Hedgepath, John Eberhard, Jason Geddings;

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Pleasant Way Baptist Church in Valdosta with burial to follow in the church cemetery. No formal visitation will be held. Mary Elizabeth Williams Wilkes, 83, Of Naylor, GA., passed away early Saturday morning on Nov. 26, at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born to the late Harold I. and Inez Scholl Cottrell Williams on Sept. 19, 1928 in Savannah, Chatham County, GA. She was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of the Pleasant Way Baptist Church in Lowndes County, GA.

Survivors include husband John A. Wilkes, Jr. of Naylor, GA.; Daughters and sons-in-law, Paulette and Jeffrey K. Eberhard of Seneca, SC., Catherine Geddings of Naylor, GA. and Pamela and Charles Saul, Okeechobee, Fla.; Grandchildren Donna Hedgepeth, John Eberhard and Jason Geddings.; Great Grandchildren Virginia Hedgepeth, Amanda Hedgepeth, John Eberhard, Jr. and Justin Eberhard.; Brother Jackie Williams of Savannah, GA.

Based on 1910 census, Maggie had 3 children and 2 were living at the time of the census and she was showing as being 30 years old, however, Air's birth certificate says she was 33 in December of 1906 and her tombstone says she was born in 1873. Therefore I think the census should have her age as 36 or 37 depending on the month. The 1900 census has her birth year as 1882 and her age as 18.
