    (December 21, 1915 - February 15, 2007)

    Mr. Barney Alford, 91, of Lake City, died early Thursday morning, February 15, 2007, in the Lake City Medical Center following a brief illness. A native and lifelong resident of Columbia County, Mr. Alford was the son of the late Francis & Alice Hines Alford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Africa and Europe during W.W. II. Mr. Alford retired from the V.A. Medical Center in Lake City after seventeen years of service as a maintenance technician. In his spare time he enjoyed doing yard work. Mr. Alford was a member of the V.F.W. and the Huntsville Baptist Church. Mr. Alford was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Skinner Alford.

    Mr. Alford is survived by two daughters, Bonita Wheeler (Billy) and Betty Glover (Doyle); and three sons, Velton Alford (Charlene); Neal Alford (Diane) all of Lake City and Edward Alford of Pomona Park, Florida. 22 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren also survive. Numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends also survive.

    Funeral services for Mr. Alford will be conducted Monday, February 19, 2007 in the Chapel of Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Steele officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery (located on 441 North of Lake City). The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 5:00P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
